What is a Capacitor Filter and How Does it Work?

A capacitor input filter is a filter circuit in which the first element is a capacitor connected in parallel with the output of the rectifier in a linear power supply. This capacitor increases the DC voltage and decreases the ripple voltage, and is often referred to as a smoothing capacitor. A filter capacitor is a basic type of capacitor that is designed to prevent a certain range of frequency signals from entering another circuit. It is especially preferred during the filtering of low-frequency signals.

A capacitor is generally used as a parallel plate capacitor, and is connected to the respective circuit so that the desired signals are filtered and excess signals are removed from the circuit.
